Basketball Golf Shooting Drill

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]   Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+This basketball shooting drill references golf because some golf courses have 9 holes. Emphasis Bend knees when shooting and shot at the top of your release Hold your follow through on every shot Snap that wrist Put seams all in one direction so that you can get backspin on the basketball Eyes are focused on the back of the rim Your arm should make a L-shape and your elbow should rub off of your side, forcing it to point inwards. [caption id="attachment_1481" align="alignleft" width="260"] Spots for basketball golf shooting drill[/caption]                 Preparation Pre-select 9 positions preferably inside the 3-point line Shot from the first position until you have made the shot Once you have made the shot, advance to the next spot Any shots from a 45-degree angle should be banked Stay in your shooting range and if you’re comfortable, attempt 3-pointers Work hard, so that you can complete this circuit with 18 shots or less Note: This drill helps players become consistent shooters when shooting spot up jumpers. Work on your fundamentals that I teach throughout my blog! I used to do this drill religiously and it helped me become a better spot-up shooter. This drill can be performed with 1 player, but having 2 players is always good. Sometimes it was just me and myself in the gym.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][ymlp id=1][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

2013 NBA Finals: Miami Heat versus San Antonio Spurs

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] What Coaches and Basketball Players Can Learn from the 2013 NBA Finals Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="9349" img_size="full"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Well, the 2013 NBA Finals are over and as most of us expected, King James and his Heat are again world champions. Back-to-back, and still the LeBron haters are scrutinizing him for how he played. But you have to give LeBron credit, because he's learned to take the criticism in stride and just play his game. And that is  what you can take away as a basketball player. LeBron knows no matter what he does, no matter how many championships he wins there will always be critics out there who say he's not in Michael or Kobe's league. They'll keep saying he lacks the killer instinct to take over a game when he needs to, that he'd rather pass than shoot.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]  Here is a pretty good comparison of Michael Jordan and Lebron James by Numbers Don't Lie: [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Whether that's true or not it is debatable, and only LeBron knows the answer to those questions. What you can learn from watching LeBron is that he's able to bounce back from a so-called bad game, which according to his critics is when he only scores 20 points. However, look at what he does in addition to those 20 points. He usually has 10-12 rebounds and almost that many assists. What I notice about LeBron is he's willing to take over a game if he needs to, but he also wants to get his teammates involved during the game. Nobody will ever accuse LeBron of being a ball hog like they do Kobe, and in that aspect he can't seem to win. If he took all the shots, he'd be criticized just as he is when he dishes out the assists.…

Teamwork, humility and coordination can all be learned and built on the basketball court. Focusing on just one sport however can limit a young athlete's talent, skills, and rob him or her of potential avenues to improve their skills in the sport they are truly passionate about.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]A young basketball player who participates in multiple sports can gain far more than just a new skill set. Being a multi sport athlete, such as; playing football and baseball can be a huge asset in developing an all around player for a given sport. For example, a football field provides an excellent avenue for basketball players to develop skills for future seasons. Basketball is a deceptively physical sport, and it becomes increasingly so as players get older. The physical contact that is required in basketball, even at the youth level, can overwhelm a less aggressive kid. Football allows young athletes to experience physical contact and hits, preparing them for those to come on the court. It teaches them the best way to absorb a blow and get an and-1 and not fold under a little bit of pressure. Football is a physical sports, so consult with your physician before registering your young child to play. If a basketball player played football, they most likely would not be on the offensive or defensive line. Typically, you see a multi-sport athlete play in positions that need speed, such as; the wide receiver, running back, and cornerback positions. Being a two sport or multi sport athlete not only will allow them to keep their conditioning up, but can actually help improve it as well.…

How to Dunk a Basketball

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Learn How to Dunk a Basketball in 7 Steps Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+  One of the most awe-provoking basketball tricks is definitely the dunk. A dunk occurs when a player soars through the air vertically and throws the basketball inside the rim. Nothing can get a crowd more pumped than the dunk. Mastering the art of dunking takes diligence, practice and a few simple tricks. At first, learning to dunk seems impossible, but with the help of these tips, you’ll be dunking in no time no matter if your short: Step 1 Leap higher: The key to dunking is to increase your ability to jump. In order to increase the height of your leap, you will need to strengthen your legs. If your legs aren’t strong enough to jump high, then dunking might be impossible. If your legs aren’t strong, however, there’s no need to panic. It is very easy to get them into shape. Lunges and squats are great exercises for leg strength because they work the right muscles. You’ll need focus on basketball workout that promotes lunges and squats. Calf raises will also help strengthen your legs. Focus on strengthening your calves, hamstrings, quadriceps and inner thighs. Step 2 Get flexible: Believe it or not, your legs need to be flexible in order to be able to dunk. Gaining flexibility isn’t easy, but with work, you’ll get there. You can gain flexibility by stretching on a daily basis. Yoga is also a fantastic way to obtain flexibility. Step 3 The right shoes: Some basketball players swear that the right footwear affects their ability to dunk. Investing in high quality shoes is key if you want to dunk because they’ll keep your feet safe from injuries. Look for shoes that have cushioning on the inside because…

Derek Anderson Stamina Book

Derek Anderson's Stamina book is also touching. I thought I had a tough life growing up but it was nothing compared to Derek Anderson's story. However, I can relate to him in some ways. He lived for a while not knowing how he was going to eat. That has to be scary for a young kid. His mom would leave for days and sometimes not return for weeks, so he had to find food for himself. He would help people carry their groceries to accumulate money to feed himself. Just imagine having to stand in front of a grocery store and practically beg people to assist them, so that they could pay you almost nothing to feed your hunger. Not just buying food for himself, Anderson had a child at a very young age and had to provide for the two of them. Anderson described sitting with his son, both looking at the candle in the room, praying that it would stay lit while sitting in the dark. Luckily his uncle stepped in and pretty much saved his life and the rest was history. Here are some interesting questions that were asked. Here is what I learned from his Stamina book: Derek, how many friends and family members call you now asking for a favor? All the time. I have people who said they knew me and probably have meet me once, message me on Facebook, and all other extremes, to ask me for some kind of financial assistance. My response is, get to know the real Derek Anderson first. I don't mind helping…

Should Your Child Play AAU or YBOA Basketball?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Advantages and Disadvantages of AAU and YBOA Basketball Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+  Parents, coaches and young basketball players, I played AAU and YBOA basketball and it was fun! However, if you are thinking about letting your child play for an AAU basketball team, consider some of the following advantages and disadvantages. These are some of the experiences that I learned from playing for the Newton Flames, a local AAU team put together by some area coaches. With all of the pressures that kids nowadays have to cope with, the decision for them to play in Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Basketball or Youth Basketball of America (YBOA) leagues has to be one that comes from them. It is very important as a parent for you to consider the advantages and disadvantages of AAU and YBOA to ensure that you and your child understand the whole picture when you decide to let them join an AAU or YBOA basketball team. AAU and YBOA Advantages An advantage is that some of the players that your son or daughter will face in AAU or YBOA will be some of the best players in the country. There is no denying that more and more college recruits are popping out of the AAU and YBOA systems and that playing with and competing against these athletes is great for player development. Getting used to a high level of competition is something that can be beneficial in the long term for any young athlete. I got the opportunity to play against Chris Paul, which would have never happened for me at a young age if I didn't play AAU. Of course his powerhouse AAU team beat our local team, but I scored 26 points and he scored 27. He and I played well against each other,…

2 Ball Dribbling Drill Video

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] 2 Ball Dribbling Drill Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+   [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_video link="http://www.youtube.com/embed/eIYygNvyZBU" el_width="50" align="center"][vc_column_text] Watch the video for my tutorial of the 2 Ball Dribbling Drill, see below for some visual steps[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text] Step 1: Get in a basketball position by spreading your legs shoulder width a part, bend your back and knees slightly. Step 2: The first iteration of this drill is dribbling both basketballs at the same time. Let's start high by pounding and controlling the basketball. There is a higher margin of error when you are dribbling with a higher bounce, so you have to control the basketball and pound it. Next, dribble both basketballs at the same time with low quick dribbles. Note: It is all about mental focus and toughness to perform this drill successfully. Step 3: The second iteration of this drill is alternating the dribbling of both basketballs. Again, let's start high by pounding and controlling the basketball. Next, dribble both basketballs alternating the dribbles with low and quick bounces. Step 4: The third iteration of this drill is a combination of step 1 and 2. You will dribble one basketball high and dribble the other basketball low. Make sure you switch hands with a high and low dribble. Make sure you keep trying these drills until you can do them without looking down and do them with out messing up. I would recommend trying this drill for 30 minutes. 10 minutes for step 1, 10 minutes for step 2 and 10 minutes for step 3.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][ymlp id=1][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Dr Perry Bobcats

Doctor Perry Charlotte Bobcats – Physician

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]   Charlotte Bobcats Personal Physician Doctor Perry taking a look at My Knee   Written By Lamar Hull @ Google+I remember about 4 years ago when I could play basketball all day without feeling any pain. Maybe, this is why I feel so much pain now, it is because I didn't take stretching seriously then. Now before I play, I have to stretch and loosen up for 20 minutes and stretch 10 minutes after playing. Now as I get older, I realize how important stretching really is. So, just a quick recap on my basketball injury, I was playing in this basketball league and a player from the other team tried to take a charge as I was driving to the hoop. You can read more about the technicality of the injury here on my blog. This only resulted in a bad collision and me not being able to play the rest of the game, let alone walk normally for 4 weeks.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="9414" img_size="full"][/vc_column][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Doctor Perry, the Charlotte Bobcat's physician (will be Charlotte Hornets again in 2014), ranked as one of the top physicians in Charlotte NC, looked at my knee and found fluid and a cyst building up on my ACL. I have never had knee problems, so now as I try to recover, I understand why Derrick Rose didn't return after his ACL tear. There is definitely some fear and mental setback of making the wrong move when you are playing again. This isn't how you should think about it, but it is something that is always in the back of your mind. I was actually cleared to play on Wednesday as I have no more pain in my right knee. The only problem is, if the pain returns, I have to get surgery. If the…
