There is no doubt that Stephen Curry is a NBA Legend in the Making. He is already considered one of the top 5 NBA point guards ever and will eventually be considered one of the best NBA players as he continues to break records and change the way the game is played!
How does Pistol Pete Maravich tie into all of this, Pete Maravich is a basketball legend and played the game well before his time. He set a collegiate scoring record that will most likely never be surpassed.
He averaged 44 points per game one season without the 3-point line. His crafty ball-handling and passing ability was also exceptional. Very much like Stephen Curry!
Both of these guys understand the game at a high level and can/could outplay the best of them. Pistol Pete is the basketball player I tried to model my game after, with Curry dominating the NBA, I wanted to compare the two.

Pete Maravich and Stephen Curry are like twins separated at death. In 1988 the same year that Pistol died “Chef Curry” was born. The similarities are too glaring to gloss over. Both players would fill arena seats and wow fans with their wizardry. Both of their fathers played professional basketball that would lead their kids to grow in N. Carolina to playing varsity basketball. Both players would go on to lead the NCAA in scoring. While neither players are known for being great defenders, both players would go to become two of the best ball handlers and best shooters in NBA history. Both players would make all-rookie 1st team while neither earned ROY honors. Both would set their current career highs in points vs the “Knicks”. Both players would lead the NBA in scoring in their 7th season, Pete averaged 31.1ppg while Steph is currently averaging 30.8ppg. Both players would earn all NBA 1st team in their 6th and 7th season. Steph can become the 1st player since Pistol to lead both the NCAA and NBA in scoring. Both players would set and top their own current records for 3 consecutive seasons, Steph with leading the NBA in total 3s made in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Pistol’s college record still stands from 1968, 1969 and 1970 with averaging over 44ppg. Both players are considered the greatest showman of their time, the ultimate H.O.R.S.E. players who pushed the limits and transcended the game. Out of all the pre-1980s stars, it was Pistol whose career that would’ve been transformed the most by the 3 point line.

Thanks for acknowledging my piece. I thought about the comparison about the same time Phil Jackson was comparing Steph to Chris Jackson. I posted it on Bleacher Report in the comment section and the feedback that I got was amazing. About a week after I posted it Bob Ryan came out with a story with the Boston Globe. With you being a former teammate of Curry it gives you a lot of credibility. Thanks for the feedback.
